Swimming pool in Shirebrook

Swimming pool in Shirebrook is a dream that we lost due to the Labour Party. Yet again- politicians who are proud to represent this ex-miners town- betray them. Till today many wonders- why? Why Labour voted against the swimming pool in Shirebrook? Why they push away this investment to Clowne. I have a hypothesis.

Please be aware- everything you read below is just my point of view and if you want to know who and why voted against swimming pool- please contact your councillor. I did and… I dint receive a clear answer… You could try to find an answer in The Post- good luck with that. They never write about Labour failures. That is why you don’t know that Labour-led Council fails to obtain a loan that they chasing since 2016. I hope they will never get it- this loan will crush town budged and put us in 50-year repayment ordeal.

Anyway- someone made that decision to take away first Council investment in Shirebrook in at least 7 years. Honestly- I live here since 2013 and until new Town Hall- I see no Council investment directed toward residents life improvement. Some argue that new Town Hall was build just for Council workers and Councillors pleasure. It is hard not to agree- as an ordinary resident, I see no positive impact on my life from that investment. From my point of view- it would be much more cost-effective to extend and refurbish old Village Hall. There is enough space and if you take under consideration that new Town Hall created huge logistics problems for Town Market stalls warehousing, you will see that someone in Shirebrook drop the ball. Again.

There is saying- if you don’t know what is all about- its about money. But money for swimming pool came from taxes so it’s not about it- even most dedicated Labour fans know that Labour doesn’t care about money and fiscal responsibility… So we can say with a huge dose of confidence that capital wasn’t a problem here… at least not entirely. There is another kind of capital- so-called “political capital”.

In 2011 and 2015 Labour won all Clowne constituencies without any problems and with huge margins. After that- in each vote and each election- Labour vote share shrunk dangerously. My hypothesis is that someone at top of Labour local structures decided to throw Clowne a bone, so-called election sausage. They knew that Shirebrook is paralysed and there is no opposition, so they decided to divert investment from Shirebrook to Clowne in order to gain residents gratitude and… votes in 2019 election.

People in Shirebrook were furious but when election day came- they voted Labour again… People in Clowne? Well… this is a different story. Just look at this:

Until 2019 Labour reign of power in Bolsover District and Clowne was unquestioned. They rule with an overwhelming majority and they didn’t care about anything other than holding power. But they forgot about… people they represent. They underestimated electorate and they paid a huge price in a local election in May 2019. They lost not only Clowne but also an overall majority in District Council… And when they think that electorate is stupid enough to vote on them again- they lost the general election and for the first time- MP in Bolsover District. I do wonder- when people of Shirebrook decide that Labour is not good for them…

There is one more reason why Clowne has a swimming pool. Council offices of Bolsover District are located in… Clowne! Looks like bureaucrats received a nice present from Labour councillors. If you notice that some of Bolsover Council workers are also Councillors- you should understand that your taxes in Labour-led Council don’t work for you. They work for THEM.

So- here you have my hypothesis. We don’t have a swimming pool because the Labour establishment tried to “bribe” electorate in Clowne. Do you agree with me? Or maybe you have a different hypothesis? If you do- drop me an email.
