Crime in Shirebrook grows under Labour Police and Crime Commissioner

Today very few residents remember the events of 2016 when we had a wave of knife attacks in Shirebrook. Right after attack on Market Place someone (as far as I remember- Shirebrook Together Group) organised meeting of residents with Councillors, Police and Police and Crime Commissioner. I was there as well…
Labour always blame Conservatives for crime increase in recent years. Left-leaning politicians love to underline that Police funding is going down but if you look at data provided by Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner himself- in recent years there was a significant increase of Police funding and Police Constables number in Derbyshire. Leaflet with this data was printed and distributed very close to new PCC election day (cancelled now) and of course this leaflet does not mention growing crime rate in our area.

Normally you can expect that more money and more Bobbies on the streets should mean lower crime rate in areas where residents struggle with crime. It’s easy- focus your efforts and resources on crime-infested areas, then organise a coordinated response and be relentless as long as there is a problem. Current PPC was elected on Labour ticket so I’m was not surprised that he prefers to play politics and don’t engage with the community to solve real problems. It is clear that he is not focused on Shirebrook. Once again- Labour politicians neglect and forget about our town as soon as ballot boxes are closed.
Remember meeting in 2016? Labour PCC promised us that he will do something about growing crime rate in Shirebrook. Well… just look how well he did his job- chart below shows a number of crimes in Shirebrook in 2017, 2018 and 2019. (Jan 2017 figure is estimated; all data collected from police.uk website)

Labour councillors promised us CCTV on Market Place. Did they keep their promise? They plunged town in debt, they increased taxes 7 out of 8 years I live here, they built new Town Hall but did they invest in CCTV? Nope! It’s not on their agenda…
Sooner or later PCC elections will go through. We can vote for another Labour hack who will ignore Shirebrook until next election or we can send a clear signal to Labour that Shirebrook is sick and tired of their incompetence. Before you cast your vote- think twice: can we afford another 4 years of neglect and taking us for granted?
