Why we can’t have nice things in Shirebrook? The answer is easy- Shirebrook Labour Party is more like Lazy Party. Comparison of Clowne and Shirebrook councillors attendance is just a tip of the iceberg. I reviewed several Councils in Bolsover District (Clowne, Bolsover, Pinxton, South Normanton, Barlborough and few other) and ALL of them usually have one meeting per month attended by the vast majority of elected councillors and dozens of residents. Labour Party in Shirebrook created multiple Committees including one taking care of “Leisure” (who cares about crime when you can spend money on parties and festivals, right?). In reality, there are a lot of meetings and very few effects of those multiple meetings… Somehow I stopped to wonder why no residents ever visit those meetings.
Labour does not like scrutiny. That is why they split up into committees: to make it difficult to observe what’s happening. On top of that- almost 50% of our councillors skip about half of the meetings. Even they can’t cope with the insanity THEY created.
There wasn’t a single example of Councillor so lazy in Bolsover District that he/she vacated seat due to inactivity as it happened in Shirebrook. We have 2 possibly 3 in Shirebrook! Did Council Leader notice that? NOPE! Shirebrook247 noticed it… Did Council Leader do something about it? NOPE! Shirebrook247 did! Those two councillors vacated seats and there must be a “declaration of the vacancy” on next Council Meeting. When? Hmm…. this is a good question! STC could meet online but this is Shirebrook Labour Party- don’t expect a proactive attitude!
Let’s say- you care about this town and you want to participate in meetings. Just between May 2019 and December 2019, there were 10 (!) meetings. If you work long hours like me- you would have to take 10 holiday days to visit them all. It is clear that this style of work is not designed for working people. Ironic, right? People who claim to represent “working class” do everything in their power to make it impossible for a working man to keep up with town issues.
On the other hand- Clowne councillors can solve all problems on less than ONE meeting per month in the same period. On top of that- almost all Councils I checked- meet online to overcome difficulties created by Covid19 pandemic. Shirebrook? Naaaah! Last meeting in… February and no minutes from it till this day so in reality, all you have is minutes from…January meeting. INSANE!!!
Remember my article about swimming pool in Shirebrook? Would you be surprised that the swimming pool was not the only project pushed away by the Labour Party from Shirebrook to another town in our District? One of S247 readers just wrote to me with yet another example. I will investigate it further and post details in a few weeks.
