Interview with Shirebrook Town Council Leader- Christopher Kane

Question: As a leader of STC you are partly responsible for low attendance of Labour Party councillors at STC meetings. Can you explain to my readers why you ignored the fact that two Labour Party councillors completely stopped coming to meetings and were eventually removed from the Council (after S247 intervention at BDC electoral team)? Why have you, as the leader of the council, done nothing to discipline or remove these inactive councillors from the council?

Q: Some time ago www.shirebrooknews.com revealed that councillors of Bolsover District Council are highest paid councillors in the UK (in non-metropolitan authority). You are one of them. Can you explain our readers why Labour Party thinks that its OK to raise taxes year after year (about 32% local tax rise in last 4 years) and at the same time pay politicians such high allowances?

Q: For years residents of Shirebrook pleaded to Council to create a network of CCTV in most crime-infested areas of town. Labour councillors promised to build it in 2016 and 4 years later we still do not have it. Why?

Q: Can you tell us progress on the PWLB loan application and explain why STC trying to refinance the loan taken for the new Town Hall from BDC at a 0.75% interest rate to a much higher PWLD interest rate (at this moment 2.84%)?

Q: Since February 2020 there was only one meeting of the Shirebrook Town Council. At the same time, other councils in our area had several meetings using the internet. For example, Clowne Council holds a meeting every month. Why did Shirebrook councillors decide to ignore modern technology and just suspend any activity? Is this lack of any work and literally no visible change in town is just a prove that STC is a waste of taxpayer money and should be dissolved?

Q: A few years ago there was a huge scandal when Labour Party councillors voted against placing a swimming pool in Shirebrook. Can you explain why this investment was placed in way smaller town than Shirebrook?

Q: I live in Shirebrook since 2013. In all this time there was not a single investment from BDC in town. Can you tell my readers why?

Q: Victory of the Conservative Party candidate in Bolsover District General election was surprising to many. Was it for you?

Q: Can you describe Your opinion about Labour Party “period of reflection” after last election defeat?

Q: In your opinion: will the Labour Party manage to go back to its roots (working-class) under the leadership of Sir Kier Starmer or will it eventually cut itself off from them to become a party of liberal, globalist, pro-European elites from big cities? In other words: where do you see the Labour Party in 5 years?

Q: Sir Kier Starmer was designer of Brexit policy of Labour Party before last General Election. As we know- it failed spectacularly. Recently he did U-turn and now he claims that the Labour Party need to forget about Leaver/Remainer division. Do you think that the Labour Party is able to finally move on from Brexit and focus on real issues?

Q: One more question about the new leader of your Party. Do you think that knighted elitist lawyer, living in the multimillion mansion can be an effective leader of a party claiming to represent the working class?

Q: There were two main reasons why Conservatives won last general election: first was Jeremy Corbyn and second was raging anti-Semitism in Labour Party. It’s almost a year after the election and there is no end to new scandals involving those two factors. Do you think that suspension of Jeremy Corbyn is the end of civil war inside the Labour Party or the start of it?

MY COMMENT:
No one can accuse me of not trying hard enough. I sent countless e-mails, text message, I called several times and I was close enough- Christopher Kane picks up one time back in November 2020 and he promised me to “look into it” after “his tablet comes back from repair”. For me it was weird- leader of the Labour Party have the only tablet to work on? No desktop computer? No laptop? No smartphone? Even at the office??? How’s that possible??? Are he stuck in 1970 or something???
Anyway- he answered the phone on 13th November 2020. It was after I sent him several, unanswered e-mails. I send him questions again on 14th November. Just to be sure that he received it- I sent him a text message asking for confirmation on 16th November. No reply.
I wait for two weeks. I called again but the call was sent to answering machine. From that day all my calls were sent to answering machine. After that, I send the e-mail again. And again after some time. I even used an alternative Gmail e-mail box to reach him. Nothing. No reply. I don’t exist for Labour Party councillors. I’m plebs, trash, piece of garbage. Don’t laugh at me- they think exactly the same about you. You don’t deserve their attention a bit. You are here just to pay taxes and shut the hell up.
I didn’t try to get an interview with Labour official because I wanted. I tried because several of my readers asked me to do it. One of them even claimed that all I do is to “bash Labour”. How can I not? Look at them- hiding in their basement without internet and computers, not meeting even on zoom, not answering phones, not caring for Shirebrook- just power and titles for themselves.
Do you know how long it took me to get an interview from MP Mark Fletcher? One e-mail. That was it.
When elections come they will claim that they work hard, that they are there to protect our interests. Jesus Christ! How they can lie like that?!? I know- they Labour so lying comes easy for them but for God sake- why people still believe them??? Why no one in Shirebrook trying to do something about that? Why when local elections come- only 20% of us goes to vote? Look- Shirebrook voted Conservatives ONCE- in general 2019 election. What happened? They gave this town what voters wanted since a wave of immigration into this town- Brexit. When Shirebrook last time voted Labour and they won- Labour gave us illegal war in Iraq, massive society-changing immigration and Credit Crunch.
Funny thing is those questions weren’t really that hard. I saved real curve-balls for the time when they finally decide to meet at full council. At this point, for me, STC is a joke. Nothing more. Bunch of “Labour Family” “yesman” and lazy “donothings”.
Today Sir Kier Starmer called 5% council tax increase (quote after BBC): “absurd”. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-55607160) Wonder how he would call 33% rise in 4 years dropped on us by Labour in Shirebrook? Can someone from Shirebrook Labour tell him that just last year Labour raise the tax in Shirebrook by… 9%???
Are you ready for this year Local Tax Bill? Normally I would report on STC discussion about it but they have those in shadows now so I know nothing.
Anyway… I will rephrase and send those questions to STC in form of FOI Act. Don’t hold your breath- STC always refuses to answer any question with a political underling. I will also try to call EACH councillor in my ward. It won’t take much time: there are only a few of them- two had to step down due to laziness and those who left usually completely ignore any emails from me. I will only do so because of my journalistic obligation to use every opportunity to get answers to questions important to the community.
